An elegant vintage settee by Maitland-Smith, featuring a dramatic black lacquered frame accented with hand-applied gilt detailing throughout. The open back is distinguished by a striking series of interlocking circular motifs, giving the piece a strong architectural presence while retaining the refined proportions associated with Neoclassical and Hollywood Regency design.
Gracefully curved arms terminate in scroll-form details, while slender saber-style legs and subtle gilt embellishments lend the frame a sophisticated, almost jewelry-like quality. The generous upholstered seat is finished in a warm ivory/cream silk fabric with decorative nailhead trim.
The Maitland-Smith brass label remains present beneath the seat, confirming the maker.
